Cheetah in the Okavango Delta

Friday, August 31st, 2012

Cheetah are most certainly a treat to see in the wild, if you’re lucky enough that is!  We haven’t seen them often in the wild and on the rare occasion that we have, they’ve usually been far off in the distance with no photo oppertunities.  While on our trip through Botswana recently, I spotted these 2 from a long way off…  They were relaxing in the early morning sun on top of a Termite mound.  It was picture perfect so I decided to take the road that would lead us right next to them but as we approached, they got scared and ran off!  I really thought we had lost them but we managed to keep our eyes on them as they went from Termite mound to Termite mound and finally close enough for me to snap this shot with my 400mm lens.  I think it was a mother and her not so young cub. Pitty about the collar around her neck.

Ginny & Luca close and personal

I’m always trying to get good shots of my cat’s eyes, needless to say that it’s one of the most difficult things ever!  Cat’s get weird when a lens get’s close to their face!  I recently got myself a Canon Macro lens which means I’m gonna be getting in even close to the cats!  Lucky for them.  I shot these 2 shots yesterday by pure luck!  They were both feeling pretty lazy so they were still enough for me to snap these 2 shots of their eyes.  I love my cats!

Ginny in the Garden

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Spring is a good time to take photos of your cats, they’re out and about getting up to all kinds of mischief.  I adopted Ginny a couple years back from the SPCA and she really has brought much fun and many laughs into our home.  This is her out in the yard, enjoying the awesome Spring weather of Johannesburg.

Meet Ginny.  Adopted 2 years ago from the SPCA and now a huge part of our daily lives.  She loves sitting on these chairs at the top of the garden where she can watch over all that is going on.  Or not watch anything at all.

I shot these pictures the other day when I stopped to get some juice on my way to an old skatepark in the south of Johannesburg.  As I got out my car, I spotted this cat sitting un-usually close to all these birds.  At first he was just sitting there…  I think the pigeons were too big for him to target but once the 2 doves landed there, he went straight into ‘kill’ mode!

Lion Cubs

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

There’s an enclosure at the Lion Park that we went to the other day, you can go on in and ‘play’ with the Lion cubs!  They weren’t very active when it was our turn to go in as it was kinda hot and they were just sleeping on top of one another inside their little shelter.  I waited a while and eventually there was some movement!
