I recently purchased a new Canon 50mm Macros Lens from Arrow Photo and took it with on a trip to Durban to celebrate my wife’s cousin’s 30th birthday and also to see their new house! One of my favourite things about Durban is the amount of wildlife that still lives in and around the gardens within the city, it’s pretty amazing! Reptiles are plentiful and with a bit pateince and time one can walk around pretty much any given garden and find some really interesting little critters. I like to spend the evenings out in the dark with my flash light, searching the ground and the trees for creatures of the night! I was hoping to find some Chameleons but I settled for this guy as I have never seen one or been lucky enough to photograph one before! He was sitting high up in a tree, outta my reach so I had to use a long palm leaf to get him down and then convince him to join me in the living room for a little photo shoot, needless to say it all went well and I had him back out in the yard on his perch in no time at all!

I was watering the plants in the yard the other day and noticed the golden light from the low sun hitting a specific bush in our garden. I knew what had to be done so I ran inside, grabbed my camera and shot these photos before the sun disappeared behind our wall.

I’m always trying to get good shots of my cat’s eyes, needless to say that it’s one of the most difficult things ever! Cat’s get weird when a lens get’s close to their face! I recently got myself a Canon Macro lens which means I’m gonna be getting in even close to the cats! Lucky for them. I shot these 2 shots yesterday by pure luck! They were both feeling pretty lazy so they were still enough for me to snap these 2 shots of their eyes. I love my cats!

I shot this photo as part of a little article on Johannesburg for the guys over at COLOR Magazine in Canada. It’s really an awesome magazine and covers not only skateboarding but music and art as well. I know we don’t get the magazine down here in South Africa but if you’re abroad you should go ahead and pick up a copy, you’ll be happy with your purchase!

I’ve seen many friends posting photos of their sunset experiences in from Brighton Beach in the U.K. Always wanted to experience it for myself and have some photos to show. It happened in December 2011 and here are my photos.

Meet Bradley Goodsir, son to Richard and Carolynn Goodsir and subject of my first ever baby photographic shoot. I was slightly nervous going into the shoot as I had never done something like this before and I actually had no idea what to expect! Needless to say that Bradley was one of the easiest subjects I have ever shot photos of! He smiled and laughed and seem to enjoybeing the subject of a photo shoot as much as I enjoyed shooting photos of him. These are just a few of my favourite shots that I picked out this morning. Enjoy.

I’ve been shooting quite a lot of photos with Kanya Spani lately, he’s such a good skater and all round cool guy to hang out with. I shot this photo of him doing an Ollie over this rail to frontside crooked grind. I’m actually not sure what it’s called to be honest! Dressed as a sailor from the Halloween party from the night before and with minimal sleep, he makes it look totally effortless!

I’ve always struggled with shooting panning shots of moving subjects! I decided that a great place to practice this technique is at Nollie Faith in downtown Johannesburg. The kids are constatnly skating up and down the street, all you need to do is find a good spot and wait for them to come zooming by! These are 2 of my favourite shots taken at Nollie Faith while practising my technique. There will definitely be more to come!

I noticed this kid while shooting photos of the kids skating at Nollie Faith, he just had the cutest expressions on his face as he watched everything goin on around him. I had to shoot a couple photos of him!

This is another shot I took at the Nollie Faith gathering on Saturday. I noticed this little kid sitting on the curb, all by himself while the other kids were skateboarding and having a good time. He looked like he’d been crying. I decided to approach him and try chat to him and maybe sheer him up and get him to enjoy the day with the other kids. I soon realised that his English wasn’t the best but he definitely understood the language of photography and when he saw himself on the screen on the back of my camera, he could barely contain himself! Just by taking his photo, I had completely changed his mood. I’m not sure if he was just excited to see himself on the camera or maybe it made him feel special that someon had taken enough interest in him to actually take a photo of him, either way, it made me feel warm inside. Viva la power of the camera!
