Resident Toad

It’s summer time here in Johannesburg and that usually means, lots of rain, lots of insects and, of course, lots of critters that like to eat the insects!  Toads are quite common around these parts but, it’s not as common to see them in your yard every other night, hopping around.  I’ve spotted this guy on a couple of occasions now, just cruising the yard so, I decided it was time to shoot some photos of him/her.  Enjoy!

Creepy Crawlies

I usually go hiking with my Dad every Sunday morning for about 10km’s at a place called, ‘Suikerbos Rand’.  It’s a nature reserve about 30 minutes out of Johannesburg with a pretty big diversity of wildlife.  I usually end up looking for snakes as we hike, lifting up rocks and looking in cracks.  I didn’t find any snakes on this last hike but I did find these guys, a strange locust and a scorpion with all her babies on her back!

I took this picture in my parent’s garden and then tweaked the colors in Photoshop to make it look a little different.  I love experimenting with the colors to see how things look, it’s really amazing what you can do with Photoshop, there’s endless possibilities!
